Merrion Development Group was born out of an award-winning historical renovation project that took place in Madison, WI between 2011 and 2014. During these years the MDG Principal, Eric Flanagan, led a $2.4 million historical renovation of a landmark-designated building in a protected neighborhood near the Wisconsin State Capitol. The Jennings and Kronenberg designed red brick building was originally completed in 1906 and is an excellent example of the early English Revival architectural style. This particular renovation presented a number of significant challenges in renovating and expanding the building to meet contemporary specifications within the confines presented by the Landmarks Commission guidelines.

The intricate process of creating a functional design, and ultimately having it approved by the Landmarks Commission, required extensive conceptualization and cooperation between engineers, designers, developers and City bodies. During each step of this process, careful planning and collaboration allowed the project to proceed on-time and on-budget with full City support. Following completion in the Fall of 2014, the project was awarded the 2015 Historical Rehabilitation Award by the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation.
